Black History Month 2026

February 1st – 28th

Celebrating Black History Month
At Marsh, our colleagues’ diverse experiences, backgrounds and perspectives create an environment where all of us can bring our best to our clients and thrive. One way we fulfill our commitment to our colleagues is by observing cultural milestones, such as Black History Month. 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month observance in the United States. This year's theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” highlights its significance in shaping the understanding of Black history and culture. Throughout February, we’re highlighting our colleagues and their contributions towards building our vibrant, inclusive community.
Voices from our colleagues

Brian Johnson on Staying Ahead of Our Industry

Head of North American Actuarial Advisory, Guy Carpenter, based in Philadelphia, discusses his 35-year career across several facets of the insurance industry.

Black History Month is important because it provides an opportunity to correct omissions in our history. It gives us a chance to honor contributions across every field, and it provides a structured time to examine how past and current policies continue to shape present and future outcomes for African Americans in this country

Fred Smith on Paying it Forward

Managing Director, Florida Leader, Marsh Risk, based in Miami, describes leading through challenging circumstances and the people who inspire him.

Stories like these remind me of the resilience required to create lasting change and the responsibility we have to continue pushing progress forward in our own spheres of influence.

Jourdin Thomas on Bringing and Building Her Best Self

Associate, Oliver Wyman, based in New York, tells us about learning self-advocacy in our open, collaborative environment.

Black History Month is a time to honor a rich cultural legacy and the resilience of the Black community. It also encourages reflection on the pathways that made my own professional and personal opportunities possible.

Mikalia Edghill on Stepping Outside of Her Comfort Zone

Actuarial Associate, Mercer, based in Toronto, tells us about the experiences and people who have helped her gain confidence and take risks.

To me, Black History Month is an opportunity to continue sharing our stories and ensuring they are heard and valued. It is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of those who came before us, as well as to recognize those who continue to pave the way for our community today.

Shawn Hill on Pursuing Self-Improvement

Client Advisor, Marsh McLennan Agency, based in Connecticut, shares how he prioritizes self-improvement while fostering an inclusive environment for all.

Black History Month holds deep personal significance as a celebration of my heritage and the trailblazers who paved the way for the opportunities I have today. It is a time to honor the struggles overcome and to reflect on the ongoing work required to build a more equitable society.
